Columbus County Attractions

Come and explore the hidden treasures of Columbus County. History, festivals and our natural wonders make us the perfect vacation destination. Founded nearly 200 years ago, it’s a county rich in history, highlighting the ways of a bygone era. Whether you would like to “Discover the History of a county called Columbus”, feel the charm of days gone by, visit a small river town or experience an outdoor adventure in some of North Carolina’s most scenic places, Columbus County can offer it all.

Visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville.  This dynamic indoor-outdoor nature and science learning center has been re-purposed to feature new exhibits, an Investigate Lab, Nature Exploration Center, a Distance Learning Classroom, and an outdoor Nature PlaySpace. You can enjoy Lake Waccamaw, one of the largest natural lakes between New York and Florida, a kayak or canoe trip down the Lumber River, designated as a “Wild and Scenic River” by the US Department of Interior or experience an afternoon of fishing or hunting at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park.  Come and discover for yourself why we say “Your adventure begins in Columbus County!”
